What is Krasten?

Krasten is a text-based single-player RPG/MUD-like game in development by Gravecat, set in a gritty cyberpunk world. Explore, kill, loot, quest, survive. The emphasis of Krasten is to have a large, open-world game where the player is free to either follow the main story quests or branch off and do whatever else they want, exploring and discovering new things, looting treasure and new gear, helping others or causing mayhem - the choice is yours. The game has been in development since 2016 and is still in a very early, very unfinished state, but I'll be occasionally uploading pre-alpha preview builds to let people try out the gameplay so far.

The project is closed-source and developed entirely by a single, slightly deranged programmer in C++. The pre-alpha preview builds, along with further builds after the game is in a more finished state, will all be entirely free. (See below.) As of the time of writing, the game consists of over 29,000 lines of C++ (not including third-party library files), over 17,000 lines of JSON data, and almost 300 lines of Lua.

Pre-Alpha Preview Builds

These builds represent an extremely early preview of the game to come - Krasten is still under heavy development and is going to be a great deal larger and more complex than what you see here. With that said, you can download the latest public build (version 0.74.29d) for Windows (29.9Mb) or Linux (27.8Mb). Please note, for Linux builds you may need to download additional packages, which vary by distro. For Debian and derivatives (Ubuntu, Mint, etc.) you will need at least libsdl2-2.0.0, libsdl2-image-2.0.0, libsdl2-mixer-2.0.0 and liblua5.3-0.

Buy Me a Coffee?

Krasten is entirely free to play. There's no microtransactions or anything of the sort; I'm making this game because I enjoy doing so, and I hope you'll enjoy playing it! Not only that, but even after the "finished" release of the game (1.0), I still plan on continuing to expand and improve. There's no catch, but if you enjoy the game and want to help with development, feel free to buy me a coffee. Caffeine keeps me going!

Issue Tracker: Bugs & Suggestions

If you notice any bugs or other issues with the game, or if you have any suggestions for improvements, new features, or general constructive criticism, please feel free to open an issue in the issue tracker on GitHub, or email me at cat@moxx.net. Your feedback is extremely important, and reporting bugs that I may not yet know about is immensely helpful and appreciated!
