The devlog for March 1st-6th 2016:

  • Added Melee Combat and Ranged Combat skills, and linked the Unarmed skill to Melee Combat, granting the latter half bonus XP on skill gains.
  • Added a basic combat engine, along with a “kill” command.
    • It is now possible to kill NPCs and loot their corpses.
    • When an NPC is slain, the player will now automatically target the next hostile entity.
  • Various bug fixes and performance improvements.
  • NPCs now have alignments, and may join in fights with other NPCs of a sympathetic alignment.
  • We now have visible health bars!
  • Added a “take all” command.
  • Added a “played” command to show total time played.
  • NPCs can now equip (and drop) gear.
  • The player and NPCs can now use weapons in combat.
  • Added a Toughness skill, which determines the maximum hit points of the player and NPCs.
  • Added new weapon skills: Short Blades, Long Blades, Short Hafted Weapons, Long Hafted Weapons, Pistols.
  • Added Evasion skill.
  • Added a “skills” command, to show the player skill levels.
  • Added critical hits with weapons.
  • Added “equip” and “unequip” commands.
  • Added a skill points cap.
  • Changed the project name from “SUD” to “Subgea”.
  • Improved the title screen and intro text.
  • Added the ability for NPCs to do an emote action when entering combat or attacked.
  • Added Linux support.
  • Added a new start area.
  • Rooms can now start with static items.
  • Added a drop-down status window and minimap.
  • Added a time and weather system.
  • Added variable room temperatures.
  • Added hypothermia, and a possible resulting death.
  • The player can now die in combat.
  • Added Soaked debuff when the player is caught out in the rain. They can dry off in warm rooms.
  • It is now possible to die of hunger or thirst.
  • Added “eat” and “drink” commands.
  • Added Konami code.
  • Implemented sound support, partly salvaged from an older abandoned project (DMF).
    • Added menu sounds, death music, combat sounds, skill-up, critical hits, doors, weather, time of day, and more.
  • Added a tag to cause named NPCs to not respawn after death.
