The devlog for September 16th-22nd:

  • Major overhaul of the game world, story and theme. Much of the existing storyline and a bunch of NPCs have been dropped, the world layout (particularly outside of the industrial sector) has changed greatly. This is entirely a good change in my eyes, as it’s let me ditch some elements of the game that I was never happy with, and focus entirely on the parts I enjoy the most.
    • Changed a whole bunch of factions to fit the new story/theme; some are reused, some are removed, some are brand new.
  • Improved the display of faction standings.
  • Greatly improved the display of skill levels.
  • Started construction on some new areas outside of the city.
  • Updated and improved the code handling static loot containers.
    • Loot container inventory is now preserved after being opened once, instead of re-randomizing later.
  • Adjusted the gear the player starts the game with.
  • Reworked many areas within the industrial sector.
  • Rebalanced numerous NPCs, particularly non-faction-aligned creatures.
  • Improved the code handling dynamic equipment on human NPCs.
  • Added several new types of NPCs to the city.
  • Improved the item listing on get, drop, and loot commands.
  • Opening doors can now allow light from adjacent rooms into dark areas.
  • If a hostile NPC initiates a fight, the player is no longer punished with assault/murder crime rating.
  • NPCs are now less tolerant of the player stealing their stuff.
  • NPCs who were unlawfully killed will now have their possessions marked as stolen, so they cannot be sold at shops.
  • Certain NPCs can now block the player from specific room exits, initiating a fight if their warning is ignored.
  • Various bug fixes and performance improvements.
  • When a unique (non-respawning) shopkeeper is killed, the shop’s inventory is placed into a container in the shop room.
  • Loot containers and dropped shop inventories will now despawn after approximately a day and a half of in-game time.
  • Added a lootable ruined car to the Darkened Alley, and a lootable ruined aircraft to the landing pad outside the black market warehouse.
  • Massively overhauled and improved the trains system to be much more extensible and less kludgy.
  • Changed the application icon. I was getting tired of looking at the old one.
